When Fixation Meets Biology; Bioinductive Implants in Foot & Ankle Reconstruction

 

Learning Objectives:

  • Describe the structural properties, biologic integration principles, and proposed clinical applications of bioinductive implants as they relate to soft tissue augmentation in foot and ankle reconstruction.
  • Evaluate clinical decision-making considerations through case-based review of ankle instability scenarios—including lateral, medial, syndesmotic, and multidirectional instability—to determine appropriate indications for biologic augmentation alongside fixation techniques.
  • Apply evidence-informed surgical planning strategies by integrating biologic scaffold technologies with traditional fixation methods to optimize stability, healing potential, and patient outcomes in reconstructive procedures.
